Think Y!A will ever get around to fixing the spell-checker's lameness?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

My guess is it chokes if an answer exceeds 1000 characters — it is definitely a size of text issue, but I wouldn’t swear to the exact size that breaks it.

As you may know, if an answer exceeds the magic threshold, the little busy processing swirly-do spins forever, without spell-checking a thing. Annoying to be sure.

So come on you guys, this is 2007, 1GB of RAM costs less than , broadband is pervasive, multi-core CPUs, 64 bit O/S’ are picking up speed… and your spell checker breaks at a boundary of 1K? Oh… gee… how austere.

So, if there’s any way you could improve this situation, that’d be just swell. :-)

Why is my Belking N+ Wireless Router Internet Speed slower to BT Home Hub 2.0?

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I’m with BT Broadband, first of all had the Home Hub 1.0, then the 1.5 and then finally after trouble getting signal on the other side of the house decided to get the 2.0. I found the 2.0 no different to the 1.0 and 1.5 home hubs in distance even though the 2.0 was meant to give you more range.

So i decided to pop in to a computer store and check out the wireless routers they had, and was advised to get the Belkin N+ as it was easy to install and it was the only one to give more range than BT’s 2.0 hub.

I got home and started to unpack the new router and started to instal it. At first i had real trouble getting internet signal but with a little more patience then i finally found out the bt hub although not connected to the internet but because it was switched on stopped the belkin router connecting to the internet.

All up and running and the signal distance is amazing, can get signal anywhere in the house, and probably even get it outside. But the internet seems slower. Now i’ve done the speed checker on the internet and i get 0.25MB download speed on both the 2.0 Hub and the N+ Router (i know its slow speed to begin with but its all i can get in my area). The Belkin router seems to load pages slower and watching videos with it is a nightmare, but it was fine with the home hub. Any reason as to why or anyway i can change this?

    Is my broadband slow?

    Friday, March 26th, 2010

We have virgin 2 meg broadband, but it seems to run soooo slow. On various speed checker sites we get an average of about 750 kbps, but, as an example, to load the bbc site, it takes about 8 seconds, and that’s only a 108 kB site! We just got a new laptop today, is it possibly something to do with that? Our old laptop ran even slower, but the hard drive was almost completely full on that. Anyway, how much does a computer affect your broadband speed?
